Remembering Coach Rick
Assistant Coach Rick Miller passed away Monday, June 16, 2008 after a bout with cancer over the past several months. Rick was a coach, a mentor, and a friend and will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. San Diego State Makes the Jump to ACHA Division II
The ACHA recently announced that San Diego State University will jump from DIII to DII competition beginning the 2008-2009 season. The jump comes after the Aztecs finished 2nd in the Nation in Division III last year.

Coach David Hough Named ACHA West Region Coach of the Year
San Diego State Coach David Hough was recently named ACHA West Region Coach of the Year after leading the Aztecs to the National Championships for the second year in a row! Also being recognized was Sophomore Ben Nicoll who was named to the All-West First Team. Kolin Ozonian and Lane Smith were added to the All-West Second Team.

Aztecs Claim 2nd Place in Nation
In the Championship game saturday night the Aztecs fell to Cal of Penn. in Rochester, Minnesota. It was a hard fought game that saw the Aztecs jump out of the gate early in the first but unable to capitalize on early oppurtunities. Cal struck first and rolled with the momentum to an eventual 7-3 victory with some outstanding saves by their goaltender.

Following the game the All-Tournament teams were announced and the winning teams were honored with trophy ceremonies. Tommy Neer earned All-Tournament First Team Honors, while Goalie Jacob Kalmonson, Forward Ben Nicoll, and Center Kolin Ozonian were all honored with all Second-Team honors.
The weekend capped an unforgettable season by the Aztecs. After coming out of nowhere last year to gain a bid to Nationals, to this year beating some of the best teams in the Nation on the biggest stage. The Aztecs went 23-1 during regular season play, finished #2 in the ACHA Pacific Division, won the PCHA title for the second consecutive year, and now finished #2 in the Nation. All around it was a great year and would like to thank all of the fans and parents who made this all possible. Thanks for a great season everyone, see you next year... (check back for more photo's)

Aztecs to Play in National Championship Game!
San Diego State got an early boost from Mikel Stevens scoring the first goal of the game against University of Central Florida. The Aztecs went up 2-0 by the end of the first and carried the momentum through to the end winning 7-0! Jacob Kalmonson lead the way with a shutout in net, stopping all 30 shots he faced. Mikel Stevens finished with a goal and an assist, and Anthony Sansone added two goals for the Aztecs. Aztecs Skate into Final Four
SDSU took an early lead against Hope in the first when Kolin Ozonian scored on a short-handed breakaway. The Aztecs carried the momentum through the rest of the first, finishing the period 3-0. The second period presented back and forth scoring oppurtunities for both sides with Aztecs rimming a couple off the post. The Aztecs extended their lead in the third with another Shorty by Kolin Ozonian again, and tallies by Alec Nadelle and Lance Peterson in the final minutes to finish off the game 6-1.
The Aztecs will face off against University of Central Florida tomorrow at 6:00pm Central time. This will be the second meeting between the two squads in consecutive years at Nationals. The Aztecs defeated UCF last season in Indiana by a score of 3-2.
SDSU Beats Tennessee in First Round of National Championships
The Aztecs beat #3 seed Tennessee this morning 5-3 in Rochester, Minnesota to advance to the second round of the ACHA DII National Championships. The Aztecs will face off tomorrow at 7:30pm (MN time) against the winner of the Hope vs. Fairfield game.
San Diego State Headed to Nationals for Second Straight Year
The Aztecs are set to fly to Rochester, Minnesota Tuesday evening in order to prepare for their first round game against Tennessee at the 2008 ACHA National Championships. The tournment will run from Wednesday to Saturday. The bracket is now available online. Be sure to check back as we will be updating the site throughout the week.

Aztecs Defend PCHA Title!
The San Diego State Aztecs defended their PCHA Title on Sunday by defeating CSU Northridge in the Championship game by a score of 12-2. The Aztecs beat NAU in the semifinals 7-0, after having a bye in the first round.
